Danny van Leeuwen, MPH, RN — Host, Health Hats podcast
Bio:- A pathologically optimistic, catastrophizing, saxophone-tooting old white man of privilege living with multiple sclerosis. A nurse and C-suite survivor who’s led the implementation of electronic health records and walked end-of-life journeys with family. Committed to health equity and learning and sharing what works for best health. Leveraging privilege and experience to open seats at the table of healthcare governance, design, operations, and research for underrepresented and underserved communities. Danny has worked clinically in pediatric, emergency, home, and intensive care. He led two EMR implementations. Danny had a long career in quality management leadership across rural and urban health systems, a children’s hospital, behavioral health, managed care, and consulting. Danny is especially interested in building capacity for successful community-research partnerships. Danny is a podcaster, vlogger (https://linktr.ee/healthhats), traveler, and is on the Board of Governors of the Patient-Centered Research Institute (PCORI). He is an advisor to the Center for Innovation and Value Research, the Light Collective, and Open Notes. Danny’s current focus is on patient-driven and controlled use of AI in seeking best health for themselves and their families. Danny plays baritone saxophone in a Latin Band and a Dixieland Band in his spare time.
